Fit for a Drama-Free Queen: Move Part 2

This is so funny. Some of the reactions are classic; actual grieving over candy. The two little boys at the very end are my favorite!

*** It ONLY took me an entire week, 4 un-returned calls, 3 un-returned texts, and one very angry voice-message to contact the landlord's Realtor to get everything in line for this move-in. I could barely schedule the electricity turn-on for the day of move-in. Here's how it went down:***
Those stools were my birthday present to myself. I love them.

I stalked this mirror until it went on sale for 50% off. I've been wanting one this style for a LONG time!
Wednesday aka My Birthday: Present #1-I got to start the day waking up to my husband delivering Dunkin Donuts and coffee. It felt great. Present #2- a ridiculously sweet card that will hang on our refrigerator (that doesn't have an ice maker or a water filter/dispenser) for a long time. Present #3- Concert tickets to "How the Edge Stole Christmas"!!!! Whoo Hoo!!! Present #4- Concert tickets to HOB to see Stain'd! Do you have any idea how much I love concerts?
Ever see the episode of "Friends"; you're my Pinguin! The bottom left picture is Patricks "Be calm, Stay friendly" reminder. He invented it one night in Hollywood and I always keep it around. It works. The bottom right is me grabbing Patrick's butt at a family BBQ. And the card on the right I got Patrick as a suprise, "I love it when you spoon me. I love it when you fork me." Love it.

Man, this was starting out to be a fantastic day. . . . . . . . . .then I looked around and remembered we still had to move. I took the puppies out on one last walk to the dog park and got started with the rest of the packing.
Since the landlord was no help at all with gas companies I could call, and I had no idea where anything was, resulting in my phone being dead, it was thrilling that Patrick's phone had just enough juice for me to spend an hour calling 4 different companies, navigating through 4 different automated system directories, and waiting on hold 4 different times to finally find a company that would service Gas to our new rent-house. The earliest they could come? Thursday! I try to be content with the small accomplishments in life. Believe me, tomorrow things get hairy.
Every room as tall ceilings and cute little nooks to put decor. Fancy!!

Thank goodness for facebook to remind us of everyone's birthday's! Though moving always sucks, the weather couldn't have been nicer and neither could the comments everyone left me throughout the day!   Here are a few of my favorites ("Cat" is my husband's nick-name. Brendan is my English pin-pal. Tina knows me far too well; we used to live together. Jessica and I have called each other "cow" since we were fish in high school. Although my mother tends to talk loudly, she always writes emails and texts in all CAPS, she doesn't mean to yell at everyone. Vickie is referring to my birthday eve pig-out!):
I've always loved my green velvet chair! That lamp is so vintage it gave vintage it's name. My grandfather bought it at an antique shop before I was even born. The in-table I found at an antique shop and distressed the wood details to make them "pop".

Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoyed your day. Make sure Cat treated you like a queen today.
Happy B'day my favourite little Texan. I will send my bird soon, I promise. :-) X
Its the finale of your birthday week! Hope it was fun! I'm sure Patrick spoiled you :)
Happy Birthday beautiful girl! Hope your dreams and goals are fulfilled in the year ahead! I miss you!!!
Haaaaaaaappppppyyyyyyyy Birthday! Hope it's great cowface! :))
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY. I KNOW YOUR SLEEPING SO CALL ME WHEN YOU GET UP.
KAYLAAAAAA..........happy happy birthday...happy happy birthday...happy happy...happy happy...happy happy birthdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!! love you hope your day is AMAAAAAZING!!!!!!!!!
happy happy birthday!!! Hope your day is amazing and you get everything you want:)
Wishing one very awesome, talented and beautiful lady a very special and awesome Happy Birthday!!! Hoping you have one incredible day today Kayla!!
Vickie Carruth My gosh what is all that-- looks like enough for 10 people. Wishing you a happy happy birthday tomorrow- see you this weekend-- love to my sweet daughter-in- law.
I made that birch arrangement. We got that "C" for a wedding gift. The turquoise thingy is something I found at a garage sale for $3 in Little Rock, AK and I cleaned and painted it to look cool!

And for the record, I did get everything I wanted, my husband always treats my like only the royal-est of queens, and you all are amazing for thinking so highly of just a 'lil 'ol country gal like me.
My Memma (my Mom's mom) made me this amazingly cute cookbook/keepsake with pictures of me and the family while growing up with captions, and all of her famous recipes handwritten in it. I love it and will cherish it forever. I'm already melting my new Scentsy bars, breaking in the headbands my mom had made for me, and can't wait to start wearing the apron her best friend sewed and designed with me in mind! So many exciting things!
I got that Sun on my very fist trip to Mexico with my parents. My bed is a hand-me-down I've had for years, and it is the same bed they use on "Everybody Loves Raymond". The lamp is the shake I made in this post. I accidently broke my Tiffany's Lamp Shade while moving this week. The old shutters I bought to make into a necklace holder.
I made this earring holder with an old mesh crate tray and spiral wire from Hobby Lobby.

P.S. All of these pictures are definately from AFTER this day, but since we were talking about "pretty things", like my birthday, I thought I'd post my pretty decor pictures of how the house looks now!
I made that arragement, the white chair is from my Nana, and the table is actually a really old sewing machine (it works, I use it) from Troy home-ec class. My great Aunt Joan gave it to me years ago when they got rid of them all.
My latest Pinterest project. Used two shower curtains instead of one, to open them like curtains to show light, windows, and decor! My Memma gave me those antique looking candle holders for my birthday about a decade ago!

What was your favorite birthday present ever? Do you look forward to birthdays or dread them?

Humble Yourself

Did you know I was once banned from returning anything to Wal-mart for an entire year? Apparently you are only allowed 3 returns without receipts per year. I tried to justify that one incident was an exchange and not a return, but they had no sympathy. I'm good about returning things; bad about keeping receipts. This week I returned a pair of curtain rods that I kept in my laundry closet for an entire year waiting for a project I never started. It was extremely embarrassing when I realized, while walking in to the store, that the package was covered with old sticky laundry detergent. I was thankful for the sani-wipes Wal-Mart keeps at the entry doors, but disappointed in my stupidity for not realizing I was also wiping off the bar-code before it was too late. As soon as I realized the problem I was creating, I stopped, but it meant I had to leave residue behind. . . . . . and it was still wet from the sani-wipes. When I handed the greeting lady the product for labeling and she didn't want to touch it, the mortification really started to set in. I understand that any normal person could have assumed the sticky mess was monster slime or alien juice, and after putting myself in her shoes, felt guilty that lady had to touch it. The positive note is that along with my subdued pride, I was able to obtain credit towards the curtain rods I really needed!
My hunny and I being inappropriate with our food. It's a secret to staying young.
As we hope there's always a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow, we hope there's also an upside to every down. And when I say "we", I really mean "I", because I am an optimistic. Our upside to the recent series of unfortunate events is: there are way more things functioning properly in the house now, we have everything moved, sorted, decorated, and got rid of the rest; it's liberating to rid your life of junk. I have my own bathroom and closet. We have so much more living space than before. We have a garage and now get to use our extra refrigerator and deep freeze again! Wowzers! Also, I'm thankful the whole mess occurred under my watch, so I could verify it was all done according to the safety protocol, instead of the landlord repairing it under his standards without my knowledge.
I love laughing with family!
It was an exasperating 2 hour trip to Waco and back last weekend, just to unload a storage unit, but I have an awesome family who was there for a helping hand.  I jammed out to Pandora the whole way home with the windows and sunroof open, just to enjoy life and the weather. My mother and Cousin Blake kept us entertained for Saturday's remaining hours. We popped my Mom's Ikea cherry, and then I took them both to World Market for the first time. We decided after a day like that, a beef fajita feast with table side guacamole was earned, so we all headed to La Hacienda to celebrate my birthday with margaritas! Before their trip back home at the butt crack of dawn the next morning, my mother brought me Dunkin Donuts, because she is cool like that and knows the way to my heart.
If you ever come to La Hacienda with us, it is a requirement to pose with the bear!
To put icing on the cake, my in-laws came Sunday to take us out to lunch. . . . . . for guess what. . . . . I bet you'll never get it. . . . . . . .MY BIRTHDAY. Man, I felt so important. We ate at a place down the road called Mama's Daughters Diner (which was featured in Paula Deen's Magazine). Then I spent the rest of the day decorating. Throughout all the celebrating I never had any birthday cake. . . . but I did discover these amazing Ice-cream sandwiches by Blue Bunny that taste exactly like birthday cake!!! Patrick and I decided to get two different kinds of ice-cream sandwiches and share, but I stopped sharing because mine was so good!
In other notes, Sumo LOVES the backyard. He wants to be outside all day long. He also loves to dig. He has tracked mud into the house countless times already, which is not complimentary to the beige carpet. So far, he only digs when it's wet outside. I'm open to ideas on how to fix this problem. Callie is finally getting comfortable now that the ciaos is subsiding. She likes organization and peace. Lucifer has already broken the glass to one of my bridal picture frames, which scratched the extremely expensive picture. She is currently looking for a new home.

Do you have any embarrassing "return" stories? Do you consider yourself an optimist or pessimist? How do I deal with a digging doggy?!?!?!

13'' Nipple Dooms Day Drama: Move Part 3

. . . . . . Continued from this post and this post
*** It ONLY took me an entire week, 4 un-returned calls, 3 un-returned texts, and one very angry voice-message to contact the landlord's Realtor to get everything in line for this move-in. I could barely schedule the electricity turn-on for the day of move-in. Here's how it went down:***

Thursday aka Dooms Day: I was scheduled for work, so I tried to sleep in, but my dreams were rudely interrupted by the doorbell. Not having a doorbell for the last year, I managed it work the first ring in to my dreams, but by the second, Callie had started putting her two cents in, which woke me from my slumber. It was the Atmos man. Since it was a mere 40 degrees outside, his presence wasn't completely unappreciated.
Thirty minutes worth of trouble shooting later, I was still without gas (well. . . . . . home gas at least), due to a busted 90 on the outside of the house. Though the terminology was foreign to me, anyone could see that gas was never going to enter the house after viewing the problem. Just one to add to the list, I thought. A microwave that sounds like an airplane is taking off for flight- check. A side door that takes the strength of The Incredible Hulk to open and close- check. A utility room door that sticks and is split at the bottom- check. Living room windows that are completely separated, letting cold air seep through and every bug within a 5 mile radius rush in for shelter- check. A garage door opener that doesn't work- check. Need I continue?
Not good captain, not good
Perturbed, I sent the landlord several detailed and pictured text messages of the problematic situations. I also let him know that I do consider not having hot water an emergency. After no response, I called and left a message, and then I called to let Patrick know. He called and left a few words of his own, starting with, "Unfortunately we moved into your rent house. . . . . . . . " (He's come so far in 6 years. I am so proud of him!)
Not something you want to see in your house!!!!
Later that morning the repair men were looking at the gas pipe making faces and man noises, saying things like,"Looks like we need a 13 inch nipple at the 90." I don't know much about gas pipes, but I do know a bit more about nipples, and a 13 inch nipple sounds serious. Apparently when the foundation repairs were made on the house last month, no one thought to make sure the plumbing was still intact. Oopsy.
After re-contacting Atmos to schedule another appointment to turn the gas on for the repair that was promised to be done by afternoon, I was told the gas couldn't be turned on without a city inspection. Uh-oh.
After contacting the city inspection office, I was told the repairs couldn't be made without a licensed plumber obtaining a permit to do the repairs, which hadn't been done. Double Uh-oh.
After re-contacting the landlord who to inform him of the snow-ball effect, he tried to tell me to bypass the system and just call another gas company. Hmmmmmm.
After contacting my father, he said to set the landlord straight. I'm on it. I love setting panda jerks straight.
After RE-CONTACTING THE LANDLORD, and arguing with him about the well-being of my and my family's life vs. getting blown up by gas at the house AND how much money it will cost him to do things the creditable way vs. how much money we had already given him for the month, he decided to do things the right way. Besides, we have enough natural gas floating around the house anyway (AGHEM.....Patrick). By this time it was afternoon, and he spent the remainder of the day at "my house" calling every inspection and plumbing company he could to get things done in a timely manner.
The two of us got in another spat about whether or not the microwave was "broken", since I was costing him so much money by requesting things be done a certain way, and turns out I was right (as usual): the thirteen inch nipple was very serious, and if things hadn't been done the right way, they would have never caught the OTHER leak that was inside the house by the furnace. IGNORAMUS'.
Patrick's thoughts, "We've moved into the Money Pit!"
We had to spend the rest of the week driving the 8 mile trip each way through city lights, back to an empty apartment, to take showers.
source
     {Despite it all, I do think the landlord is a nice fellow. He was just completely clueless about the condition of his house, and got overwhelmed when I bombarded him with it all in one day. And he had no idea how stubborn I could be. He did credit us "no rent" for the days we were without gas, and called after everything was done to make sure in the end, we had gas, and proper heated water.}

Do you have any renter nightmare stories?

Drama Eve: Move Part 1

I don't have to ask if you've missed me. I know you have. It's okay to be honest with yourself. I missed you too. I'd way rather have my fingers tapping away on the keys about my random thoughtful life gibberish and reading about everyone else's than being completely consumed by the last week's events.

It ONLY took me an entire week, 4 un-returned calls, 3 un-returned texts, and one very angry voice-message to contact the landlord's Realtor to get everything in line for this move-in. I could barely schedule the electricity turn-on for the day of move-in. Here's how it went down:

Last Tuesday (aka My Birthday Eve): I got off work at 7am and took many trips back and forth, from new house to old apartment, moving things (my husband refers to those things as "crap").
My sweet notes; I couldn't wait until Wednesday!
The husband calls me sometime during the day and asks where I plan to be at 0930 the next morning. I tell him, "moving", and he requested that I be at the apartment for a special birthday delivery. He then further explained it wasn't flowers this time, and he had never sent this kind of delivery before. I assumed it was a sing-a-long-telegram and continued to push through my day. I reminded him not to buy me anything, since I had already recently purchased things I wanted that I lacked patience for (AKA everything).
Looks can be deceiving!
I went for about 30 hours without sleep, a necessary sacrifice for the move to comply with my timeline standards. After unloading everything, I noticed the house is way dirtier than I had previously thought, so I started 4 hour cleaning spree. While I was cleaning I noticed there was NO hot water. I called the landlord to let him know and he said, "Oh. It may actually be gas." What do you mean MAY BE GAS?!?!?! Didn't anyone think to tell me this before I moved in? Didn't anyone think to tell me this when I called for a week to contact some one to ask about all the utilities and getting them set up on time?!?!?! DIDN'T ANYONE THINK AT ALL?
Callie was feeling uneasy about the move.
Patrick took me to dinner that night and we pigged out over enough food for an army of 6 while I drank a huge margarita. The margarita then lead to conversation of my ideal birthday present:
Don't let this picture fool you. This was only part of Patrick's meal, and completely omits mine!

Me: Do you know what would be the best, most absolute ideal birthday present in the world? (Sweet face.)

Patrick: What?

Me: If you would stay home with me tomorrow so I could spend time with you. . . . . . .and you could also help me move all this "crap" in a more timely manner.

Patrick: Babe, you know I'd love to, but I can't do that.

Me: Pretty please with sugar on top? You NEVER take off work, and you NEVER call in sick. What about mental health days? You NEED a mental health day. Tell them your wife will have a nervous breakdown if you go to work. I know Wednesday is your busiest day of the week, but. . . .  . .but. . . .  . .(thinking of a good excuse for this one). . . . . but. . . .

Patrick: Hunny, I love spending time with you, but I just can't tomorrow.

Me: (On the verge of throwing a tantrum big enough to put a terrible 2's toddler to shame) You've already paid for these days!! It's the end of the year. You will just lose them! And then what? Call in sick; sick of moving, sick of your wife complaining, sick of . . . . . .

*****this is where the semi-long lecturing tantrum occurred*****

Patrick: You are ridiculous. You know that? I can't believe it. (Shaking his head in defeat and disbelief.)

Me: Huh? Because I love my husband and want to spend extra time with him, or because I want you to not go to work to intern work by moving all day instead?

Patrick: You always do this; you just couldn't let it go. I hope you're happy. You ruined your surprise.

Me: (Light bulbs and epiphanies, followed by silly smiles.) I did? Was my delivery tomorrow. . . you?

Patrick: (Nods head and makes frowny face) I am so mad at you right now. I was going to go to work for 1 hr, then go home and get you breakfast and deliver it to you.

Me: It's not ruined, I'm so happy! (Ecstatically jumping up and down within the limits of the booth seat.) I get exactly what I wanted for my birthday!!!!!!. . . . . . . . Why did you break down and tell me?

Patrick: 'Cause I knew you were getting so worked up over this that you were going to be upset with me for not calling in sick, and I don't want you to be upset. It's your birthday week.

Me: You're the best husband ever. (Then my margarita and I seduced him.)

Do you celebrate your entering this world for more than one day? Do you use your sick days??

Drab to Fab

So in my efforts to do everything except pack on my days off last week, I decided to try decoupaging for the first time in my life. I've grown tired of starring at our boring T.V. dinner trays, which have seemed to evolve into a prime piece of furniture in our living space since we NEVER eat at the table. My half-hearted efforts at searching the world wide web and pinterest for idea's to mock, left me still clueless on how to spice these 'beauts up with the least amount of effort possible, so it was up to my imagination.

I knew I had the neccassary items.
 Mod Podge- check.
Boring T.V. Dinner Trays- check.
A crap load of scrap book paper that I got at Hobby Lobby because I just couldn't decide between 3 different books, so I bought all three and rationalized that it was okay because they were on sale for 50% off- check.

After starring at them blank-faced for serveral hours, and procrastinating for several more, all of a sudden, just like with any of my other spontaneous ideas, a lightening bolt hit me! Layered stripes required absolutely no measuring, minimal cutting (since they're layered), no rounding corners, and allowed me to incorporate all the pages I wanted so I didn't have to pick favorites!!! A little color schemed organizing, pasting, trial-and-error-making, and mod-podge-laying later, the transformation was complete!
I chose not to cover the entire top, so that the wood would still be a feature, and just added an accent of color at the bottom of the legs to tie it all together. They turned out so visually interesting; I love looking at them now and can't decide which one is my favorite!
     The lessons I learned are:
1. Snippity Snip Snip: It is necessary to at least do a little cutting, because if you don't, the layers get too thick and you will have bubbling/wrinkling issues.
2. Roll that Sh*t Out: A roller is an amazing asset for smoothing down the paper just right to prevent bubbling/wrinking.
3. Size Matters: Well, thickness to be exact. The thickness of the paper really does matter. Don't go too thin; rounding corners is difficult if it's too thick.
4. Go Easy on the Touchy Feely: Certain types of paper can be more delicate than others. All of the paper I bought was vintage scrapbooking paper, but the slick peices were less destructable than the cardboard textured peices. If there was any sticky glue or extra moisture, the pattern on the cardboard-like peices was easily damaged.
5. Don't be scared to try it! If you can cut and paste, you can Mod Podge!!!!!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to start moving into the new Rent House and make it Fab!!!!

Do you dread moving as much as I do???? Have you ever Mod Podge'd before?

I'm Not Crazy!!!....Or Maybe I Am........

Literally MONTHS ago (about 3), I ordered a foam roller. I didn't want to rely on a trip to the gym for that extra good stretch that could only be provided by a huge circular wad of plastic digging into my back and legs. I started to second guess myself on ever ordering the dang thing, since every time I went to the office for a package pick-up it was never there. I searched for my emailed reciept, and could never find it, so I just diagnosed myself as "crazy" and moved on.  It's journey to me must have been a tough one, becuase the box it came it looked like it had made it through World War I and II, the Korean War, and maybe even Civil War. But the wait is over (thank goodness I'm not crazy); my beautiful pink foam roller has made it home, safe and sound, to be embraced in it's loving new owner's arms (and in good timing since we are moving)!
(FYI: That's not my last name; all of our boxes are stolen and borrowed. Just kidding about the stolen part!. . . . . . . .or am I?)
Did you know boxes are good camera props (as long as you ignore the fat that the box it was sitting on completely hogged the flash, and it wasn't exactly a perfect flat surface, but who am I to be a snob to improvision)? Anywho, after the move, I now I have the equipment I need for my next bit of news I'm going to share (minus a knee replacement):

I never thought I'd be the type of person to do this sort of thing, but in a moment of weakness (or strength depending on how you look at it) it happened. I registered for my very first half marathon! I officially have 5 months to prepare myself, as it will take place in the rolling plains of Hill Country near Austin, in March. I'm still not sure exactly how it happened, other than it was a vicous cylce. My girl friends at work talked me into it, and then I talked my Cousin A into it, who had previously made the comitment to me and herself to participate in some sort of race before her 21st birthday. Bet she didn't know I'd up her from a 5k to a Half Marathon!

Source
It's going to be awesome. But I foresee my experience being more like: Zooma- run. sweat. hibernate. {In highschool when I used to run Cross Country and Track, I'd get home from the event and literally hiberante the rest of the weekend. I think my mother was always worried that I was going to die.} It's actually a race organized for women. A girls trip. Massages, jewerly, and wine after the fact, if I can still walk while holding my eyes open, and marking one more thing off my bucket-list. Who knows, maybe I'll even enjoy it. For some time now, I've really been wanting to start training for a Triatholon, but until I can afford a road bike, my dreams are on the back-burner. I just can't bring myself to compete in something like that with a mountain bike. Not after Heather ruined me and let me feel the easy earned wind in my face for the first time on her roady.

If I run a marathon, will I look like this?!?!?! . . . . . . . . . Probably not: my steps will be WAAAAYYY smaller. And my butt will always be bigger!
Any who, I'm going to start slow, building a good solid foundation for muscle strength and heart rate control. . . . . .and I'm going to get fitted for the perfect pair of running shoes to suit my old lady knees. I know there is a ton of different training schedules out there, which brings me to my next inqusition:

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best method of training? Any other advice you'd like to offer this first timer? Are you checking anything off your bucket-list soon?

Planets of the Sex

Source

If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, and Pluto no longer exists outside anything other than Disney World, than:

Venus: What did you do today?

Mars: (makes cave man noises)

Venus: Did you get the oil changed?

Mars: I couldn't find the drill charger.

Venus: Why do you need the drill?

Mars: To fix stuff. . . . . . (confused face) Why do you think?

Venus: Like what? Did you go to the rent house today?

Mars: Ya, I went to the store and got stuff to fix the fence.

****Two hours later****

Venus: Hey, I was thinking, to put the chicken wire on the fence, wouldn't it just be best to use a staple gun?

Man: Of course. . . . . . (confused face) What the heck did you think I'd use?

Venus: I dunno. You were talking about the drill earlier. . . . . .

Mars: Why are you SOO worried about the drill?

Venus: I'm not, I thought YOU were!

Venus: . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Mars: I bought I weed-eater today. A good one. The one I wanted.

Venus: Oh ya? Cool. How come you didn't mention that earlier?

Mars: When?

Venus: Like when I asked you what you did today?

Mars: I just didn't think about it.

Venus: (mentally throws hands up in air in defeat)

If you guessed that would be a conversation between husband and wife, you'd be correct. If you guessed it was a conversation between Patrick and I, you'd be correct again. If you think I just made all this up, shame on you for giving me enough credit to be THAT creative!

As a woman and a nurse, communication is a top priority. As a man, my husband is good at communicating his 4 essentials: Lust, Love, Hunger, Sports. Nothing more, nothing less.

You got communication gaps with the people in your life? How do you deal?

If Frogs Could Dance

In my first semester of Nursing School one of our instructors said something that would stick with me forever. "After this, you will never look at things the same. Once you're a nurse, you will always be an assessor of your environment. You will notice things that you never would have noticed before." It's true. I look at the pieces of people, put them back together, then try to figure out why and how they are the way they are. Physically and mentally. Maybe that's why I LOVE people watching. I miss the fantastic people watching in Hollywood. We never had to leave the comfort of our couch, peering out the living room window for a good show.
It may not be as crazy here as it was in Los Angeles, but if you look closely, the hilarious-ness is around you. Here are a couple of things I've witnessed in real life this week:
Is it just me, or does it seriously look like this dog is taking the Jeep out for a joy ride? Thank goodness my camera was in reach while I was pumping my gas! I was just crossing my fingers the owner didn't come out while I was poparazzi-ing.
Everything about this is freaking hilarious. The seriousness of the frog faces. The orchestrating frog. The cowboy boots. The ass grabbing. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that it's frogs. Period. The people in the house were probably thinking it was funny that I had the audacity to stop on the shoulder of the highway and walk up to their yard for a fake frog photo-shoot. This is the only thing interesting about the I-35 drive to Waco. Look for it across from Carl's Corner if you ever drive that way!
I'm jealous they get to dance all day everyday. I love to dance.
Do awkward moments make you giggle? I had to laugh the other day when I was leaving Starbucks and a woman said hello to me. After looking her over, I didn't see anything recognizable about the lady, so I proceeded to get in my car. She made it a point to stop talking to someone else, walk over to me and say hello again. It was only after the moment of no return that she realized I was indeed, not Sue, but a mere stranger. She was so embarrassed, but I thought it was really funny.
Patrick got bitched slapped by a tree limb this weekend. Sounds impossible, but you see, what had happened was . . . . . . .there was this tiny barking dog that we were starring and laughing at, and my hunny is a tall guy. He failed to watch where he was going and the next moment he was slapped in the face by a limb and his glasses were on the sidewalk! I laughed so hard I almost expelled my nachos. He had to stand there for a few minutes to compose himself. Good thing only the barking dog, the barking dog's owner, the barking dog's owner's friend, and myself witnessed the embarrassing occasion!

Do you pay enough attention to the things around you to notice the humor? What's the funniest thing you've seen lately?

Glass Soup

I was suppose to spend the weekend packing, but since I'm the princess of procrastination and the queen of leftovers, I managed to talk myself out of doing anything productive out of necessity and made a huge mess on the living room floor getting crafty instead, whilst devouring all the soup I made while I was sick. The wicked part about it all: if I would have packed like I should have, then there wouldn't have been a glass vase on top of the refrigerator, and therefore it wouldn't have fallen from the frig to disperse shards of glass not only all over the kitchen counter, in the cracks of the oven, and on the kitchen/living floor, but also in the leftover chicken and dumplings. Of course, it couldn't have happened to the saltiest soup ever made in the history of mankind (oops), the chili ranch soup, because nothing destructive ever happens to the crapy things in life. So I did what any self-respecting-chicken-and-dumpling-lover would do. I picked out the glass, and put it back in the frig! I wouldn't lie to you; that's how good my Cick-N-D's are.
Go Rangers!
Callie's officially terrified for the week, with the breaking glass and the intense Patrick. She wouldn't even let him take her on a walk Sunday night. She'll never understand his profoundly passionate love for sports.
When Sumo wasn't helping, he was looking out the window; one of his favorite pass times.
My love is expressing my artistic ability. I spent hours teaching myself to make flowers from burlap fabric. I maybe could have knocked at least a solid hour off my finish time if I didn't have two "little helpers" constantly sneaking off with all my supplies in their mouths! I think I may have pulled a burlap-string-attacthed-dingleberry off Sumo's hinny yesterday. My finished products turned out spectacular.
My burlap bouquet. Three different flower techniques. Three different burlap colors. Three different dog toys in the background.
The original lamp shade
Each side of the lamp shade as a finished product. Lots of flower experimentation went on here!
In between the sports watching, the mingling, the eating, and the crafting, we also found a little time to cuddle for a movie, spiked coffee, and hot chia tea in my case. We watched The Kings Speech. Very good movie. Superb acting.
I love my boys!
I discovered this Chia Tea liquid mix at the grocery store and it is the bomb-diggity!
Done anything fun lately? Do you like to craft; if so what do you craft?? Have you watched any good movies I need to know about?

Thank you, Thank you

Thank you, thank you. . . I. . . . .I. . . . . .ugh . . . . . .um. . . . . . am so unprepared to receive this award. I mean. . . . . .I didn't even have anything written down *cough, pulls a crumpled piece of paper from my pocket*. I give props to all the insane people that surround me every day, and would like to recognize the bad luck fairy that graces her presence upon me almost weekly, provoking and inspiring such grounded words to appear on my blog. I just couldn't do it without my animals. . . . . .and umm. . . . . .Camera, you are a delight to work with. To my freshman year English Comp teacher in College who tried to convince me to persue creative writing, thanks for the "A". . . . . . . And let's not forget my parents for doin' the dirty to make my life possible. . . . .  . You two are rockstars! *hurry up and get off your soap box music starting to play*. . . . . .And last but not least, I'd like to send my im-measurable love to my husband, who supports all my bad habits!  And my fans.  . . . . . I could never forget you. I love you all!

Not to be dramatic or anything, but I just received my first blogger award.

My girl Heather, who writes Just a Colorado Gal, thinks I'm awesome. I think she's pretty awesome too, since I'm a devoted fan of her blog, and she let me sleep in her bed for a weekend.

Apparently this award comes with 3 strings attached, so I'll do the best I can to follow the rules. But as a fore-warning, I LOVE to break the rules.

#1 You must thank the giver, and provide a link to their post.

#2 You must state 7 random facts about oneself.

  • My second toe is much longer than my great toe, and my third is pretty close to the edge. That means I'm the boss.
  • I've lived in 12 homes, 7 cities, and 2 states in the last 26 years of my life. I didn't start moving until I was 18, you do the math.
  • I am a sucker for animals. I think I can hear their thoughts. Watch out Cesar.
  • I love to veg-out and watch movies just as much as I enjoy the great outdoors, especially if it involves cuddling with my hunny and my animals.
  • I have the most awesome husband in the whole wide world. Sorry girls; he's taken.
  • I've never had braces and don't have to wear glasses, which would make me a super being, except I have 90 year old knees, and have broken 4 bones in my life, and possibly a 5th when I was drinking and driving my bike (a WHOLE other story), AND chipped my front tooth on a fork once when I was on a diet because I was so hungry.
  • I've been on national television see here, and when I met my husband, my opening line was, "Hey, weren't you on a commercial?" to which he replied, "Yeah, I'm pretty much a local celebrity." (He actually was on a local work truck renovation business commercial. Total nerd.)

#3 You must award 15 other newly discovered blogs the same award. (Yeah, yeah, so FIFTEEN other bloggers got this exact same award, but I was mentioned FIRST on the list, so that makes me the best! Right?)

  • Top Hats and Tutus These are girls I know starting a party planning business. They are so crafty and creative!
  • Flourish in Progress This girl cracks me up. She's vulgur, pretty, AND funny!
  • Steam Me Up Kid If you get this humor, then you will be laughing as much as me. It's good for your hormones! I wished she posted more often, but when she does, it's slap yo momma good!
  • You Seriously Made That A funny and crafty girl I just discovered.
  • Hungry Runner Girl A silly girl that loves to over-exaggerate almost as much as she loves food, and is such an upbeat person who loves to run!
  • Ks and Crowns A girl I went to school with that is blogging her adventure of decorating while crafting.
  • The Buzbee Family My childhood best friend's wife. She blogs the progress of their little family.
  • Girl-in-the-pink If you ever want inspiration for a new recipe or workout, this could be the place. She strives to live better.
Okay, so turns out I don't read that many blogs, but what I lack in quantity, I make up for my stalker abilities! And, I told you I like to break the rules. I try not to lie very often.

Permanently Made-Over

When I was a little girl I wasn't much different than I am today.
One: I was a bit stubborn.
Two: I had a vivid imagination.
Three: If it seemed scary at the time, I know I'd think it was fun after I did it, so I didn't hesitate. This is probably why, despite my mother's many warnings not to walk on the back ledge of the couch, I did anyway. I vaguely remember pretending to be an acrobat and walking the tight rope. The only problem is, there was no net to catch me when I fell. And I did. Three days later my parents finally took me to the doctor, where it was discovered I had a broken arm that required a hard cast.
Four: I was one tough cookie.

I took a road trip to visit my Nana and Cousin Allison last week and got my first sock completed. (It only took me 5 months!) You can click here and here if you don't remember every single word or detail of when I first started.
The experience was a little different than any other tattooing adventure I'd ever had before, since I have been taking antibiotics, and therefore couldn't take a couple of preliminary shots to numb the senses. My starry night background only entailed shading, so I thought the lack of outlining would cut down dramatically on the amount of pain involved. That was until I found out about a little technique called "blood lining". Basically he outlined all my stars with water, to cut into my skin the way a real outline would (just without ink), so I would bleed enough to show where to start the shading process. Barbaric technique.
We were all very nervous about the results, but it all turned out awesome! A few days of swelling and bruising down, and the itching phase has really set in today!
I WILL NOT scratch, I WILL NOT scratch............
"Faith is the bird that trusts in the light through the darkest of nights."

Five: I've always loved Mexican Food. Cousin A and I went to eat some fajitas at a little place in Temple after my inking event was over. It was such a strange dinner. You know it's authentic when your waitress can't even speak enough English to understand what you ordered and there's club music and disco lights with a D.J. yelling "ugh!" & "yeah!" every few minutes, in the adjacent room.

They had the audacity to insult our intelligence by warning us our fajitas were "caliente" when placed on our table. Really? So that's what steam and a sizzling sound means?

It's officially my Birthday week, so I kicked it off early having sopapilla's with my honey (not to be confused with "my Hunny")
Six: My mom always kept my hair short. I don't blame her really. I was a huge tom-boy and always in to everything. It was only a problem when everyone thought I was the boy, and my brother with the blue eyes and long blonde mullet-locks was the girl.

The very next day I went to my hair stylist for the first time in ages and had a little something-something done to my head. I was ready for a change. So, I showed him about 6 different pictures of completely contradicting hair styles and said, "Chopped it off!" I always have a case of naked-face-syndrome when I do that, but it grows on me after a few days.

Do you have any similarities between your current self and your childhood self? What's your favorite kind of food?
